Official hype chart 1.0

I know this isn’t a totally new idea and probably has a name but it came to me during DO(OM) YOGA this 12/31 – And I have no problem with ‘corny’ New Year New You plans. Why diss any idea working to do you better? 

Here’s what I think this it’s saying in case you want to try it:

  • Purple – some things that rep you the most (or you want to rep you the most)
  • Green – Expand the circle of those purple things
  • Blue, orange, light green – Hype ideas your circles make you think of in the moment

*Don’t worry if you miss something,  I know I did (sorry LUG and V). Mine definitely changed from my head at yoga → frantic credit card envelope chicken scratch → Xandu whiteboard.

It seems like you can continue these circles forever, but my favorite part of doing this was realizing it’s enough and so much of what we do is inherent based on our core (whether or not we acknowledge it).

It points to who you are and recognizes the years of experience of your badassedness. Rad vibe to take to the next job interview, walk around the block,  or art project – realizing you already have it dialed, just jump in and crush!

Jam of the Week #12: Grown Up

Making it a clean dozen with Grown Up by Danny Brown off a 2012 promo 7″ released by Scion

This tack’s literal (growing up and being successful), hype (cuz Danny!), and the beat’s simplicity and classic sound give it the right vibe for that kinda upbeat hip-hop feeling. It’s not my favorite Danny Brown song… I’d prolly say XXX , 30, or Red2Go are right now… but those are the more crazy/scary DB songs I DJ at inappropriate times whenever I get asked to bring records out.

Sweating out the bullshit

I did a sweat the other night at my friend’s parents’ spot (who are totally the crew) and laid some heavy shit to rest, and it’s kinda working!

First the sweat! They made a fire early in the day and heated a bunch of volcanic rock found around Tucson. 3 or so rocks would go into the homemade mud sweat lodge along with up to 7 people.

You hang for about 10 minutes  and are invited to share stories about lost love ones or anything else you might want to bring up.

Along with the stories and reflection comes pouring water on the rocks, filling the dirt pit with steam so hot it almost feels like it could be a bad idea to breathe in.

Anyways I chucked some ill vibes into the steamy rocks, essentially putting a place marker on them, and like I said it’s working! I’m acknowledging those feelings as officially past tense, moving forward from here on out.

When this heaviness comes back into my mind (like all things do with decreased intensity over time), I’m able say ‘oh ya that, I left that in the past, at the sweat that one time. ✌🏽

The enemy

At the same dinner greyliens were discussed, I got the dude who believes in my art to go off a bit…

His perspective is basically we’re gonna die, life is a battle, might as well kill it everyday. Crew up. Do cool shit. Don’t complain. Don’t worry about drama. Don’t be lame. Just kill it.

It’s intense but rad. And I’ve learned from communicating with B that if we’re not discussing doing dope shit, why the fuck are we talking right now? The more you apply this the scarier it gets. Good scary. Own your shit and you’re good. Move halfway and move aside.
