A while ago one of the baddest/raddest yoga teachers in Tucson shared this poem in a yin class (Thanks Shraddha)! Been staring at it daily every since and loving the re-re-re-re-re-re-reminders it preaches.
Got a dream for re-writing it through my crew lense soon
Making it a clean dozen with Grown Up by Danny Brown off a 2012 promo 7″ released by Scion
This tack’s literal (growing up and being successful), hype (cuz Danny!), and the beat’s simplicity and classic sound give it the right vibe for that kinda upbeat hip-hop feeling. It’s not my favorite Danny Brown song… I’d prolly say XXX , 30, or Red2Go are right now… but those are the more crazy/scary DB songs I DJ at inappropriate times whenever I get asked to bring records out.
Enjoy yall! Max love 💖

Feeling like Ice T’s Twitter right now gang. Scored a rad new job and I swear I did it with positive feels, crew, and not letting the world claim defeat.
Positive feels: So today I refocussed how I interact with my old job and said own this shit. Be a true fun pro. Do this work and stay happy and motivated. Halfway through the shift, email about the new job!
Crew: Spent the day with two of the most bad ass people I know, my wife and a mega-tight-bud. Earlier in the day my friend gave me some cool direction. She is working so hard to do cool shit and move past the bull it’s inspiring and totally rubbed off. Later in the day my wife supported me through the transition of how to move from one job to the next and helped me step back and look at what’s most important.
Not letting the world claim defeat: I had some good interviews for the new job, but the last one felt so-so. The next day I figured they’d ghost me because I came off kinda bland. I was down for a sec, took a bike ride, came back home and wrote a heavy email to the 3 people I interviewed with at the company. My title had a rocket ship and a lightning bolt emoji. I went off. Told them why I was the shit, and even why I didn’t come off like myselft in the last video-interview. Either I was gonna look crazy or prove that I could kill it. So far it feels like the latter or maybe a good combo of both 🤘🏽
The 11th Jam of the Week is Family by Hubert Laws ft. his daughter Debra Laws off the 1980 LP Family
I first heard this one on a tape the bud and record slanger/banger Tim Rust made featuring mega jams from more easily thriftable wax.
Family is a hype up for the crew, a reminder to rep for the fam, and a rad, bouncy, positive cut that’s been stuck in my head for over 5 years.
Adding it to the playlist as a special shoutout to my ultimately rad friend The Cuttman, who’s marrying the lovely Andy today!
CREW! FAM! ω ❤️

I did a sweat the other night at my friend’s parents’ spot (who are totally the crew) and laid some heavy shit to rest, and it’s kinda working!
First the sweat! They made a fire early in the day and heated a bunch of volcanic rock found around Tucson. 3 or so rocks would go into the homemade mud sweat lodge along with up to 7 people.
You hang for about 10 minutes and are invited to share stories about lost love ones or anything else you might want to bring up.
Along with the stories and reflection comes pouring water on the rocks, filling the dirt pit with steam so hot it almost feels like it could be a bad idea to breathe in.
Anyways I chucked some ill vibes into the steamy rocks, essentially putting a place marker on them, and like I said it’s working! I’m acknowledging those feelings as officially past tense, moving forward from here on out.
When this heaviness comes back into my mind (like all things do with decreased intensity over time), I’m able say ‘oh ya that, I left that in the past, at the sweat that one time. ✌🏽
The 10th Jam of the Week is Dang Is Invincible by Open Mike Eagle from he and Paul White’s album Hella Personal Film Festival (2016)
It’s a literal hype anthem / story where Open Mike Eagle is just having the best dang time. Kinda his version of Good Day.
I read somewhere this is the first record OME wrote and recorded on the spot. He trusted his instinct and made his art. Hence the dope looseness and effortless vibe of not giving a fuck on Dang is Invincible.
Oh and peep Busdriver sliding in at the end! Love this crew ❤️
